SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN



Oil India Limited is fully committed to Hon’ble Prime Minister’s flagship programme ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan’. The company has been rigorously undertaking various projects and activities across all its spheres in the Country in order to supplement Government’s efforts towards Swachh Bharat.

Projects/Initiatives like access to toilets by construction & maintenance of School, Community toilets and Individual Households Latrines (IHHL), making provision for the supply of clean drinking water to communities, promoting Integrated Solid Waste Management practices and maintenance & upkeep of places of public importance beside information dissemination and awareness generation campaign on Swachhta (hygiene & cleanliness) through the use of Information, Education & Communication (IEC) strategy for masses including our employees are taken up under Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan.

Some notable projects/activities undertaken under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan are as follows:


        1. Construction & Maintenance of toilets
            a.  School Toilets:
                i. 1471 boys and girls toilets were constructed in Schools in seven districts viz Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Barpeta, Bongaigaon and Dhubri in Assam in 2014-15                    under Swachh Bharat Swachh Vidyalaya Abhiyaan. Financial assistance towards maintenance of these school toilets constructed during 2014-15 is being provided by OIL.
                  ii. 189 school toilets constructed in Aspirational Districts (Dhubri & Goalpara in Assam & Namsai in Arunachal Pradesh).
                  iii. 10 school toilets were constructed in Jodhpur, Rajasthan in 2019-20.
            b.  Community Toilets:
                  i. 30 community toilets constructed in Digboi,Tinsukia & Dibrugarh in Assam.
                  ii. 6 toilets were constructed inside the office complex of Deputy Commissioner, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh.
                  iii.10 public toilets were constructed in 10 different satras (Monastery) in Majuli, Assam.
                  iv. A toilet complex consisting separate men & women toilets is constructed at Bhagat Ki Kothi Railway Station in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
            c.  Individual Household Latrines (IHHL):
                i. 949 IHHLs were constructed in various parts of East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh in order to make the District Open Defecation Free (ODF) under Swachh Bharat                   Mission (Gramin).
                   ii. 5,560 IHHLs constructed in Dibrugarh & Charaideo districts in Assamunder ODF programme.



        2. Providing clean drinking water& Water bodies management
                a. Installed 20 nos. of RO/UV drinking water plants in villages of East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh as well as drinking water project in Assam.
                b. Drinking water supply scheme constructed at Halakura 30 bed Hospital in Dhubri Aspirational District, Assam.
                c. Augmentation & renovation of piped water supply scheme done in 3 location of Dhubri Aspirational District, Assam.
                d. Drinking water facility constructed at Papera Gaon LP Sec School, Jorhat, Assam.
                e. 228 handpumps installed to provide clean drinking water to Anganwadis in Goalpara Aspirational District.
                f. Drinking Water facilities constructed in 11 Schools in Namsai Aspirational District, Arunachal Pradesh.
                g. 211 tara hand pumps installed in Matia, Krishnai & Balijana ICDS in Goalpara Aspirational District, Assam.
                h. Cleaning and maintenance of Bondajan water body under OIL's Pipeline Headquarters, at Narangi, Guwahati.

        3. Waste Management
                a. Garbage collection vehicle (5 Super Carrier and 3 JCBs) provided to Deputy Commissioner, Tinsukia for solid waste management at Doonduma, Makum & Sadiya in
                    Tinsukia.
                b. 5 garbage collection vehicles for Garbage Collection in Nagaon, Assam, were provided to Deputy Commissioner Office, Nagaon.
                c. 2 automatic compost machines & one plastic shredder were installed at Diyun in Arunachal Pradesh.
                d. One Garbage truck provided to Haulawng village, Lunglei, Mizoram.
            e. Garbage carrying vehicles including 4 Tata Ace HT, 1 tractor and 1 Dumper, was provided to Deputy Commissioner, Dibrugarh for effective solid waste management in                  Dibrugarh town.

        4. Swachh Iconic Place (SIP)- KAMAKHYA TEMPLE, Guwahati
               Oil India Limited (OIL) has been allotted KAMAKHYA TEMPLE at Guwahati, Assam, for its development and maintenance as a Swachh Iconic Place (SIP). In this regard OIL had           signed a MoU with Tourism Department, Government of Assam (ATDC), on 16.5.17, for the development and maintenance of Kamakhya Temple Complex, for a project cost of            Rs. 25.00 Crore of which more than 80% of the works are complete.


               Following work is being undertaken under the project:

               Description of work
                 
    • Development of children recreation area at Bhubaneswari Temple including maintenance up to 5th year.
    • Development and beautification of historic Chandravati pond (Nutunpukhuri) including maintenance up to 5th year.
    • Development of parking at Kamakhya outpost area including upgradation of hospital facilities including maintenance up to 5th year.
    • Development of parking, information centre, drainage at entry point of Kamakhya temple road including maintenance up to 5th year.
    • Beautification of the entry point to Kamakhya temple (Rotary at A.T.Road) including maintenance up to 5th year
    • Development of parking area near Prasanti Lodge, Bagala Mandir and Bhubaneswari temple including maintenance up to 5th year.
    • Development of the alternative road connecting Bagala Mandir with Mekhelazowa path via Kali mandir including road side parking for two wheelers including maintenance up to 5th year.
    • Resting shed with public conveniences including drinking water facilities along the road to Kamakhya from foot hill including maintenance up to 5th year.
    • Beautification work with fibre relief depicting history of Maa Kamakhya including Assamese culture including maintenance up to 5th year.
    • Construction of alternative road connecting Bangshi Bagan and Naherbari including maintenance up to 5th year.



        5. Swacchta IEC & Awareness Activities
                a. Campaigns for sensitization of school children on cleanliness and hygiene is organised every year under ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’ and ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ initiatives. Hygiene
                    kits are also distributed to the school children.
                b. Street plays on Swachhta theme are organised at various locations in Dibrugarh & Guwahati in Assam, Jodhpur & Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, East Godavari District in
                    Andhra Pradesh, and Noida in Uttar Pradesh.
                c. Various competition ranging from Quiz to Debate are conducted among school children in schools in OIL operational areas.
                d. Activities such as Walkathon, Cyclothon and awareness rallies for Swacchta and Swachhta Shramdaan by OIL employees at workplaces and public places including market
                    areas are organised across OIL spheres.
                e. Dustbins are installed in public places like market areas, temples, schools etc in OIL’s operational areas.
                f. Public service advertisements are broadcast on Television and Radio channels.
                g. Airport branding on Swachhta is displayed through hoardings & digital screens at two prominent airports of North East India i.e.Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International
                    Airport, Guwahati & Dibrugarh Airport.
                h. Efforts towards discouraging single use plastic and minimising wastage are made through distribution of jute bags and other material among public.
                i. Installation of Sanitary Napkin Vending machines in Dibrugarh University Campus.


        6. Initiatives for Clean Surroundings
                a. Tree Plantation drives conducted at multiple locations throughout the year.
                b. Development & beautification work of ‘MorutNandanKanon – Na Pukhuri Park’ in Tinsukia was undertaken.
                c. Development & beautification work of overbridge at Chirapatty in Tinsukia was undertaken.
                d. Installed Compost production units (Azolla, vermi and enriched compost) unit constructed at Hatkhola village-Chabua, Assam.
                e. Provided 1000 nos. of garbage bins & 2 nos. of garbage disposal trucks to Guwahati Municipal Corporation for garbage collection and cleanliness in different locations of
                    Guwahati.
