Upstream
In the Oil and Gas industry, the Upstream Sector primarily deal with the Exploration and Production of Hydrocarbons ie. Crude oil and Natural gas.
In the Exploration phase, the goal is to locate and estimate the oil and gas potential. The exploration starts in an area that has a high potential to hold oil and gas reserves, usually due to the local geology and known nearby petroleum deposits by drilling an Exploratory well. Further exploration is completed to delineate the oil and gas reserves by drilling more exploratory wells.
In the Production phase, the goal is to test the oil and gas reserves and extract the hydrocarbons in a sustainable fashion throughout the lifetime of the oil and gas well. The production rate of the wells are optimized to maximize the returns from the reserves and by implementing further well interventions and stimulations.
Oil India Limited had started off as an Upstream Company in the E&P Business in India. The main upstream operations of the Company are Geo-Sciences Group, Drilling and Production.
